The CDE in BIMWorkplace allows project managers to control who can view, download, upload, edit, or delete documents — ensuring both data security and efficient collaboration.
By setting permissions carefully, you can make sure the right people have the right level of access – without risking unwanted changes.
1 – Accessing Permissions
- In the folder tree, click the three-dot menu from the folder you want to manage access.
- Select “Permission Settings”.
2 – Assigning Permissions
- Use Groups for Efficienty – Assign permissions to a company or team so all members inherit the same access level.
- Inheritance Rule – The highest permission set at a folder level will apply to all its subfolders, unless explicitly changed.
Available permissions levels are:
- Read only – View files only (no download).
- Read + Download – View and download files, but no changes allowed.
- Create – View, download, and upload files, but cannot edit or delete.
- Edit –View, download, upload, and edit files, but cannot delete them.
- Manage – Full control over files in the folder.
3 – Applying Permissions
- Select the Users, Companies or Teams tab where you want to assign permissions
- Select the desired permission level from the list.
- If you want to add a specific user who is not yet listed in the tab, click Add User, choose the user, and assign the desired permission level.
- Click “Apply” — permissions take effect immediately.
4 – Best Practices
- Limit “Edit” or “Manage” permissions to trusted team members responsible for document creation and updates.
- Use Read Only for clients, consultants, or stakeholders who just need to review files.
- Keep your CDE structure clear and consistent – this makes permission management easier.
- Review permissions periodically, especially when workplace members join or leave the project.
