Creating a New Topic
The New Topic feature in the Design Module is used to manage project coordination through structured communication. A topic can represent an issue, clash, RFI, suggestion, or any relevant project note.
Creating topics ensures that communication is centralized, traceable, and directly connected to the model context.
1. Click New Topic in the ribbon.
2. The right-side panel opens
3. Add a Title and Images
a. Enter a clear and descriptive title
b. Add images:
i. Model viewpoints
ii. Images uploaded from your computer
iii. Screenshots
c. If multiple images are attached, navigate using the side arrows
d. Use markup tools to highlight elements and clarify the issue
e. Select one image as the cover (used in the topic list)
4. Fill in Topic Information
Below the images, complete the topic fields:
· Description – additional context and details
· Project attributes – configured in Project Settings
· Assigned user – responsible for resolving the topic
· Due date –expected resolution date
· Notify users – additional stakeholders to be notified
Note: Some fields are mandatory (such as Type, Status, or any required attributes defined in the Attributes Library). These must be completed before saving the topic.
5. Assign Responsibility
· Assign the topic to a responsible user
· Define a due date to ensure accountability
· Notify relevant team members when necessary
6. Click Create to finish
7. Topic Permissions
Topics are public by default. This can be changed using the lock icon to restrict access and further permissions can be defined to control who can view or edit the topic.
Pro Tip: Use consistent naming for titles and descriptions to improve filtering and searchability.
