Clash Topics in Navisworks
The Navisworks plugin allows clash detection results to be converted directly into topics. This enables issues identified during clash tests to be tracked, assigned, and managed in the Design module without manual duplication.
1. Prerequisites
Before creating clash topics:
· Log in with your BIMWorkplace account in the plugin.
· Ensure the HUB is connected to the correct project
2. Additional Tools in Navisworks
The Topics ribbon in Navisworks includes additional functions for clash and viewpoint management:
Create Topics from Clashes – Converts selected clashes or clash groups into topics
Create Topics from Saved Viewpoint – Creates topics based on saved viewpoints
Create Topics from Clash Detection Tests – Converts an entire clash test into a single topic with attached clashes
3. Clash Detection Test Topics
Clash tests can be converted directly into topics:
· Each test creates one main topic
· Individual clashes are attached within the topic and can be managed individually
Limit:
· Up to 10,000 elements per test
· For larger models, split tests by level, zone, model, etc.
Example:
A clash test between architectural and structural models generates:
· One topic
· Multiple attached clashes, each with its own viewpoint, status, responsible, and comments
4. Synchronization
Clash topics are synchronized between Navisworks and BIMWorkplace.
· Changes made in Navisworks are reflected in BIMWorkplace
· Changes in BIMWorkplace are reflected in Navisworks
If needed, manual synchronization can be triggered using the sync controls in the Topics ribbon ( ).
5. Important Notes
· Clashes are attached to the topic and managed individually
· Updating a clash status in Navisworks updated the same clash in BIMWorkplace, but does not change the topic status
· Changing the topic status to Approved in BIMWorkplace triggers confirmation:
o If confirmed, all associated clashes are also marked as Approved in both environments
